From ancient times Central Asia, now in the centre of Uzbekistan, famous for their desire for new discoveries, enlightenment and development of science. Such cities as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khorezm, etc. gave the world the famous scholars like al-Khorezmi, Abu Ali Hussein Ibn Abdallah Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Ulugh beg Mirza, al-Bukhari and al-Beruni.
Honoring the memory of great ancestors, present-day Uzbekistan continued their journey, paying special attention to the development of science and technology.
An example to what was said earlier was the summit of the organization of Islamic cooperation held from 9 to 10 September 2017 in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting primarily were directed on development of cooperation of countries-members of OIC in the field of science, technology, innovation and modernization. In accordance with the recommendation of the standing Committee of the OIC on the establishment of six high-performance computer centers in the territory of member countries of the OIC, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev has confirmed its readiness to host one of these centers in Uzbekistan. In addition, Shavkat Mirziyoev urged the participating countries of the OIC to intensify its efforts in the development and introduction of modern technologies. According to him, it should be recognized that currently, many States in the Muslim world lag significantly behind developed countries in science and technology.
"The top 500 universities in the world consists of only 11 universities of the countries-participants of the organization. In 2015, the share of applications for patents in the world from OIC countries amounted to only 1.9 percent. At the same time in 2016 in the OIC countries about 80% of scientific publications accounted for only seven of the States members of the organization. It is necessary to note with regret that, despite rich natural resources and considerable financial resources, most Muslim countries are not active in introducing innovative ideas and technologies in economy", — said Mirziyoev. In his opinion, the establishment of cooperation aimed at the development of fundamental science, the search for scientific solutions to the major problems of today will create a solid Foundation for increasing the scientific and technological potential of the Islamic world.
In particular the computing power of high-performance computer center will contribute to the development of science in the Islamic world, in areas such as mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, Earth science, biology, as well as to promoting closer cooperation of scientists from countries of the Central Asian region in solutions to the climate and water challenges through joint modulation of their rational use.
